about us
Our Mission
Team Kitten is working to create a community where all kittens are considered precious. Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate at-risk kittens, and prepare them for loving homes.
Team Kitten is a 100% volunteer-run organization, licensed by the state of Kansas and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 charity. It was founded by a group of women dedicated to improving the lives of cats and kittens in their community.?Years of experience in trap-neuter-return (TNR) and colony management enabled us to carefully construct an organization that we truly believe can make a difference in our local community. Each kitten brought into one of our foster homes receives full medical care, and love, before being spayed or neutered. That is one fewer future litter we prevent by addressing the crisis in the beginning of the cycle. While there is no one fix to such a large problem, Team Kitten stands proudly amongst other local organizations in the fight against cat overpopulation.
last litter initiative
We recognize that kittens don’t just spring up overnight.?A mama cat can have up to three litters a year! If a litter of kittens is surrendered to Team Kitten, we will fix the mama cat for you, for free.?Not only does this help curb overpopulation, it also prevents injuries from mating, cancers and fatal infections of the reproductive system, and traumatic and expensive medical emergencies during the birthing process. You can learn more about our program here!
what is a foster-based rescue?
Being foster-based means that we do not have a single physical location. Instead, all of our animals reside in foster homes across the Topeka region. Each kitten is taken in is evaluated and given a care plan. They remain in a foster home until they are ready to be adopted. Foster-based rescues are limited on the number of animals they can take in as each one needs to be placed into individual homes – our limited intake means we are a “no-kill” facility that does not euthanize animals for space. This is why we focus on the vulnerable and at-risk kittens who need immediate care. Foster-based rescues also rely on community support to provide the individualized care each animal needs. Team Kitten, and many other rescues like us, is ran by everyday people who volunteer their time and home to the organization and its mission.
