Meet Luna!
We had a very special friend join us February 2024. Luna was an incredibly sweet blind 8 month old kitten with a heart murmur. Currently her murmur requires no special care or medication. She had a long journey to get and we worked around the clock to find her forever home. She was great with dogs, cats, and young children!
Her adoption fee was only $50 and we were willing to transport her within a reasonable distance. Read all about her below!

Luna’s Story
Luna came to Team Kitten from TNR program in western Kansas. Prior to being trapped at five months old, Luna had been living outside. The veterinary staff then found that she had a tumor growing on her left eye, and the entire eye needed to be removed.
Her other eye, while free of tumors or infections, is under-developed due to a condition called micopthamalia. Luna is completely blind. Her caretaker didn’t feel she’d be able to live outside in imminent danger. The TNR group (Have a Heart TNR) took her in with the hopes of finding her a safe indoor home.
Unfortunately, we recently discovered sweet Luna has a heart murmur underneath her loud purr. While murmurs can sometimes resolve on their own, it could also mean Luna has a shorter lifespan than most. Her heart condition hasn’t slowed her down or stunted her growth. She’s right on track weight wise and runs around like any other kitten! Well, any other blind kitten! She’s so smart and adjusted to her foster home extremely quick.
While her heart murmur will need to be monitored, it currently doesn’t require any medication or additional special care. She’s been dealt a rough hand so far in her young life but its taken incredible lucky to be where she is now. We chose to believe that luck will continue and help her live a long and healthy life.
About Luna
Being blind since birth means Luna is an expert at navigating the world with her other senses. She uses the litter box and finds her food and water bowls with no issues. Her ability to sniff out Churu tubes and wet food is second to none! She tracks her crinkly and jingly toys with awe-inspiring precision. Any form of ball tracks or towers have been by far her favorite. Her foster is half convinced she can echo locate like a bat.
Take a look at the video of Luna with some of her favorite toys and you’ll likely think the same!
When not showing you her playful side, Luna is an absolute cuddle monster. She purrs almost instantly. Including at the vet! She’ll often be found on your lap when working. Being blind doesn’t mean she can’t headbutt you for pets either 🙂 Nothing makes her happier than attention and being near you. When sitting on the floor you may find Luna walking and rubbing herself up against you with happy purrs. She can be in constant motion, especially when she’s happy!
Luna was able to go to Kitten Yoga a few weeks back and did great. She made best friends with a young child there and was unphased by the change in scenery. She had her own little area in the back. People coming in and out didn’t disturb this calm kittens peace. She travels great and would be an amazing loving addition to any home.

Finding Her Forever Home!
After only six short weeks with us, Luna found her people! Amanda saw Luna on Facebook and was absolutely smitten. She grew up with a blind cat and had a soft spot for them. Along with her two children, Amanda came and met Luna at her foster’s house. It was truly meant to be as after a multi-state search for Luna’s adopters, Amanda was only thirty minutes away in Lawrence! Where the foster was to boot! We are so happy for Luna and wish her all the health and happiness in her new home.
From living outdoors and losing an eye, to being diagnosed with a heart murmur, Luna had a long road to get to her forever home. Despite the long journey, she remained a loving positive kitten.
